And, honestly, I’m not sure that that’s a good thing. It basically tastes like cream soda with a drop of malt.

I think Seagrams actually makes an alcoholic cream soda. I know they make an alcoholic ginger ale and lemon lime soda.

That’s amazing, but apparently it was an April Fool’s joke by Guinness: http://www.irishmanabroad.com/2012/04/guinness-home-of-the-white-stuff/

On a related note, I had originally planned on being in Dublin right now, which I sort of regret. The only saving grace is that I’m home drinking crappy cream soda beer from a can instead of being in Dublin, where I would have switched to drinking Guinness by now, because it’s €0.50 cheaper than everything else and that adds up when you’re a borderline alcoholic on vacation by yourself.

I love the James Page White Stout! If you have access to the Stevens Point Onyx black ale (2012) you should make a Black and Tan with it and the Casper stout. Great combo!

Their alcoholic cherry cola isn’t that good, but the alcoholic grape soda turned out all right.

Several companies make “hard” root beer (I was surprised by the selection). I had some Bayou Bootlegger over the holiday and it wasn’t bad. You have to go in expecting root beer that’s been spiked with something.

I’ll keep an eye out for it next time, although from looking at photos of the bottle, I suspect it isn’t widely stocked around here, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

There’s Best Damn Rootbeer, Not Your Father’s Root Beer, and Coney Island that I’ve tried so far. Coney Island is the sweetest, perhaps too sweet and giving the edge to NYFRB, on the other hand, Coney Island has a hard orange cream soda that’s hard to beat. It’s considerably better IMHO than Henry’s hard orange soda.

Did they have to make an alcoholic ginger ale? What was wrong with adding crown to it?

It wasn’t Seagram’s Crown. They couldn’t take the risk you not giving them all the money involved. It’s like drink incest - they wanted to keep it in the family.

Adds 18 mL of alcohol to soft drink, triples price.

Hard orange cream soda? Is it like a liquored-up dreamsicle?

When I was young I thought beer woukd says like Malta. Never heard of Casper Brewery. Their brews any good?

The first hard root beer I tried was the Coney Island. I personally didn’t like it all that much. Too much of a black licorice flavor for my taste, and as you mentioned it tastes like root beer that has been spiked with something.

Try the Boxer brand if you get a chance. It’s also very sweet, but much more palatable overall with less of that hard alcoholic-y edge imho.

lol ginger ale ... shouldn’t it have been alcoholic in the first place??

I’ve had one hard ginger ale/beer - it was very good. A little bit spicier than your normal ginger ale.

I think hard root beers are getting pretty popular.

From what I’ve seen, there’s a few bigger ones (around me), namely Coney Island and Not Your Father’s Hard Root Beer. Maybe another that I can’t remember. They’re all delicious but very sweet, like a max of two at once.

The Aldi near me actually just started stocking alcohol with their brands and they have a 6-pack of hard root beer for $7/8 which is actually awesome - probably my favorite. It’s a little spicier (root-y?) and a little less sweet than the others so it’s unique and great.

Well, there are a few golden stouts which do actually taste similar to typical dark stouts. My opinion is that the mouthfeel is significantly thinner/less viscous. Stone’s Master of disguise is an example.

Too bad I’ve never seen a can of those on sale around here

(also I’m a cheapskate and I buy whatever has a discount on it)
